Captain America: The Winter Soldier

“This isn’t freedom, this is fear.”

Once again, Captain America must stand to defend not just himself, but the America he believed in, fought for, and nearly died for. As always, Nick Fury is on the side of: do what you gotta do. This is also known as “for the greater good”. Captain America has always been for the side of Good, even if it meant standing against The Powers That Be. And so he will stand once again.

This is going to be good.

Interpol chief: To combat terror, arm the world

The amount of sanity has reached it’s yearly limit with this one statement:

Stressing that an “armed citizenry” was the only option besides turning soft targets like shopping malls into enclaves surrounded by “extraordinary security” perimeters, Noble suggested that the siege in Kenya, which dragged on for days and ended in the slaughter of 60 civilians, represented a huge public relations blow for gun control advocates.

“Ask yourself: If that was Denver, Col., if that was Texas, would those guys have been able to spend hours, days, shooting people randomly?” Noble said, referring to states with pro-gun traditions. “What I’m saying is it makes police around the world question their views on gun control. It makes citizens question their views on gun control. You have to ask yourself, ‘Is an armed citizenry more necessary now than it was in the past with an evolving threat of terrorism?’ This is something that has to be discussed.”

“For me it’s a profound question,” he continued. “People are quick to say ‘gun control, people shouldn’t be armed,’ etc., etc. I think they have to ask themselves: ‘Where would you have wanted to be? In a city where there was gun control and no citizens armed if you’re in a Westgate mall, or in a place like Denver or Texas?’”

Amazing. And absolutely right. The reality is, a disarmed populace is a defenseless populace, and can be easily subjected to all manner of cruelty and violence. Rights cannot be enforced or protected when the enemy has overwhelming firepower on it’s side. There is nothing that can be done at that point, and that’s why governments the world over have disarmed their nations: at that point, they’ve won and can do whatever it is they please. By arming citizens, you’ve created a disincentive for governments and terrorists to attempt subjugating the people. America cannot be subjugated without immense bloodshed thanks to its world’s-highest rate of gun ownership courtesy of the Second Amendment.

An armed nation is a nation not easily defeated.

As the old saying attributed to Admiral Yamamoto goes, “You cannot invade mainland United States. There would be a rifle behind each blade of grass.” Let them try, and see what happens. America is not dead, not yet.
