The Left is committed to diversity, even if it comes at the cost of efficiency, productivity, and ingenuity:
Anyone who watched the Apple (AAPL) keynote this week (if you’re me) couldn’t help but notice that it was a parade of middle-aged white guys who came on stage to reveal the company’s latest and greatest.

And Twitter, ahead of it’s planned IPO next month, has come under fire for the makeup of its board of directors: all white men. The executive team isn’t much better (all men except for the general counsel).
And lest it seems like we’re picking on Twitter and Apple, the lack of women and minorities in leadership and director roles at tech companies is a broader problem.
As The New York Times reports: About 49 percent of publicly traded information technology businesses have no women on their boards, compared with 36 percent of the 2,770 largest public companies in the country, according to GMI Ratings, a research firm.
In the accompanying video, Yahoo Finance technology reporter Aaron Pressman reveals why he thinks this disparity exists.
One common argument is that there simply aren’t enough qualified women and minorities in tech to fill these roles. The numbers (focusing on women) seem to support that.
According to the research firm Catalyst which studies women and business, only 5.7% of employed women in the US work in the computer industry, and only about 2% of women have a degree in a high-tech field.
I certainly didn’t notice, mostly because I don’t spend my free time watching tech shows or Apple’s unveiling of the latest iPad 2.5343867390. To the progressive, diversity equals fairness. Coincidentally, or perhaps not, women are far more concerned than men with fairness. Therefore, progressivism is an inherently feminine ideology. The progressive mind is one that operates under the mindset of “If NO diversity, then BAD. If diversity, then GOOD.” There are no other factors that come into play; if there aren’t women, blacks, and gays present, then obviously SOMEONE is preventing them from joining. Because the progressive believes all beings are inherently equal in every single, solitary way, the only possible explanation is “oppression”.
So what’s the problem here? White males dominate the field of technology. Women don’t even show up the radar. Blacks marginally so. Hispanics are only slightly more represented than blacks. Gays? Who knows. Jews and Asians, have a healthy representation amongst the engineers, technologists, and scientists of the world. But technology is the arena of the white male, and that is a problem. It means most of the world is being oppressed, because surely blacks, women, gays, and hispanics are just as capable and qualified–how could they not be? unless…–as white males, Asians, and Jews.
Except they’re manifestly not. Sure, there are plenty of minority exceptions to the rule, but they’re the exception. The pattern still holds. White males, Asians, and Jews are the most interested in technology because they’re the most intellectually gifted at it. This isn’t a problem, it’s just the way of the world. And no amount of whining, affirmative action hiring, or female bitching can change that.
